Gates to Heaven: Chinese Landscape Painting and Daoist Sacred Geography

This presentation discusses how the principles of Daoist sacred geography are also found in Chinese landscape painting. It argues that that a landscape painting should be viewed as miniature cosmos with directions and an iconography, guiding the viewer on a ritual journey from the mundane to the sacred world.
